Dear Colum,

As someone who relied on the wonderful staff at RVH in Belfast to repair a detached retina a few years ago, I would hate for the NHS to become a two-tier system rather like the US, without any safety net for those without means.

A hallmark of a civilised society is in how vulnerable people are treated. Our NHS is too precious to be traded away as an asset.Please give your urgent attention to this - a properly funded plan to get patients' appointments handled without delay is critical.

Thank you for your constant vigilance around the twists and turns this Conservative government takes to set their own agenda.
