It's the bonfire season. Here are some of the comments of people affected by this phenomenon below. Let's show a better side by sharing the petition and reaching 1000 signatures. We will then send to all politicians in Stormont, the press and selected people in Westminster.
It’s extremely disappointing to see my election posters alongside this sectarian message on an eleventh night bonfire. Leaders in the unionist community need to call these actions out and put a stop to this once and for all. Paul Doherty, SDLP
A loyalist bonfire, adorned with election posters of the mainstream SDLP and People Before Profit. 'KAT' means 'Kill All Taigs (Catholics). This expression of fascism, with a side of ethnic cleansing, would not be tolerated anywhere else in the democratic world. Kevin Meagher
So it's 12th July. Time to set fire to a load of pallets because of something that happened 332 years ago. History is a nightmare from which I am trying to awake. Ray Casey
Good second hand pallets cost about £10 each. Large bonfires contain 10,000 pallets (often more). So each large Loyalist bonfire in Northern Ireland represents £100,000+ up in smoke. Even the Bullingdon Club member only burned a single £20 note in front of a homeless man. Nick Hanna
Tonight I am having to answer questions from my children who came across this on social media why their Daddy is on a bonfire to be burnt. This is not culture, it is a hate crime. Those within political unionism need to show leadership & stand up against this sectarian hatred. Cllr Gary McCleave
The bonfires are expensive, environmentally unsound, and they are a visible sign of hatred. They would not be tolerated in any other country. Signing the petition is more effective. Let's make it so.
