For years, The Mountain Room has been a one-of-a-kind destination where incredible skiing meets exceptional food, craft cocktails, and an atmosphere that has fueled our stoke for skiing. It is a place where locals, day-trippers, and out of town guests get to connect, celebrate great runs, and create memories that keep them coming back season after season.

Led by renowned chef Harding Lee Smith, The Mountain Room has redefined what on-mountain dining can be on the East Coast. Guests consistently rave about the rare opportunity to enjoy gourmet food and thoughtful cocktails without leaving the flow of the ski day. For many guests of Sunday River Resort, it is not an afterthought—it is a highlight of their visit. A destination in itself. 

But more than anything, The Mountain Room is a place where long-term friendships are forged. It’s where strangers become ski buddies, après turns into tradition, and shared days on the mountain turn into relationships that last well beyond the season. The community that has grown around The Mountain Room is deeply loyal, passionate, and real. 

The response to its potential closure makes one thing clear: losing The Mountain Room would be a major disappointment and a meaningful loss to the culture and character of Sunday River.

Sunday River is known for offering something special—experiences that go beyond skiing alone. The Mountain Room is a perfect expression of that identity. Once it’s gone, it cannot simply be replaced.

We respectfully urge Sunday River Mountain/Boyne Resorts to explore every possible option to keep The Mountain Room open and thriving. Preserving it means preserving community, connection, and the unique energy that makes Sunday River unforgettable.
