Greetings Keewatin Supporters,

On behalf of our team I hope that you had a relaxing Family Day weekend. The brief respite gives us an opportunity for an update on the status of the SS Keewatin.

For the most part, no news is still good news. While the vessel remains in the ice she is under no immediate threat of being taken. In the meantime, the Canadian Museum of Water (CMW) is working with partners to provide an alternative which will be acceptable to Heritage Canada, with support and advocacy from our local MP Adam Chambers.

Having said that, the Kingston museum is still under the belief that they will be receiving the ship in Summer of 2023. It is our firm contention that Keewatin is not in a condition to make the voyage through the Great Lakes and the Welland Canal, ergo the only logical alternative is a Port McNicoll-based museum with the credentials, ambition, and partnerships that the CMW can provide.

To be successful we still need help from supporters like you. How you can help:

Appeal for Images
The Canadian Museum of Water is focused on expanding our digital assets with the intention of creating interactive exhibits online to celebrate the region's and Canada's water heritage. You can help us expand our digital collection: Do you have a photo of the Keewatin (exterior or interior) you took when it was open? How about a photograph of a beach, a lake, the ocean, or water wildlife taken in Canada? We'd love to see it and share it on our website. Please email images2022@canadianmuseumofwater.org - include your name, location, phone number (photos taken by you only please) to have them considered for our gallery.

Summer Volunteers
Summer will be here before you know it, and we have a lot of events the CMW will be a part of from May to September. For those in the North Simcoe area, if you would like to help operate a booth, walk in a parade, assist at events, and/or work with children's summer programming, please get in touch with us directly at info@canadianmuseumofwater.org.

As always, we appreciate your dedicated support to keep Keewatin in Port McNicoll.
