The issue

The Persian Gulf has been part of my identity and heritage for as long as I can remember. Its name, rooted deeply in history, dates back to the Achaemenid Dynasty around 550 B.C.E, representing the cultural legacy of the Persian Empire for millennia. It's not just a body of water to me; it represents a rich tapestry of culture and history that has been cherished by countless generations.

Recently, it has come to my attention that there is a proposal to change how the United States refers to this significant geographical landmark—from 'The Persian Gulf' to 'The Arabian Gulf.' I am deeply concerned about this potential change instigated by Donald Trump. It feels like an erasure of our heritage and a disregard for the historical significance carried by the name 'Persian Gulf.'

It is crucial to respect historical facts and the sentiments of the people whose history is intertwined with these waters. Changing the name now discounts thousands of years of recorded history and divides communities that have always recognised this region for what it is – the Persian Gulf.

Arabs already have the Red Sea, a magnificent body of water that carries its own historical and cultural significance. Why take away from another nation’s heritage when there is no need? Let us preserve this name not only for us but for future generations who deserve to inherit a history untouched by political changes.

I urge everyone to stand with me and protect the name that holds immense historical and cultural importance. A name change will not just alter maps and texts; it will redefine a crucial part of an identity. Please sign this petition to ensure that the Persian Gulf remains just that—Persian.

Help honor history and cultural heritage by keeping the Persian Gulf's name unchanged. Your support is vital to protect our shared historical legacy. Please sign this petition to make your voice heard.
