Keep the Goal at Beach Lawn Gardens for All to Enjoy
The Issue
Petition to keep the goal in Beach Lawn Gardens over the summer months
We, the undersigned, believe that every child deserves a safe and fun place to play. The goal, owned by a resident of Beach Lawn, was recently confiscated by Sefton Council from Beach Lawn Gardens and a sign was put on the gate stating football games were not allowed to be played. This small patch of the Garden has become a cherished part of our community, bringing joy to children and families alike on a daily basis.
It is disheartening to hear that a few neighbours on Beach Lawn have complained to the council about children playing football in the Gardens. We believe that a vibrant and inclusive community and children playing and staying fit is more important than adhering to a specific ‘Heritage’ aesthetic. It is shocking that a small number of residents can influence how a park, paid for by all council tax payers in Sefton, is used. Not all local children have gardens and the food bank located on the next street would suggest that not all local families can afford to pay for their children to join football clubs. According to the NHS website, Sefton has a childhood obesity rate of 38% so why would the council want to stop children taking exercise?
By signing this petition, we urge Sefton Council to reconsider their decision and allow the goal to be reinstated in Beach Lawn Gardens, the reasons given for confiscating it, damaging flower beds and ruining the grass are simply unfounded. The goal was in the Gardens all last summer and no member of staff at Green Sefton had an issue. The Gardens not only provide a safe space for children to play and bond with their friends but also foster a sense of community and togetherness.
Together, let's show our support for the children and families in our community and stand up to the prejudice shown by a few residents and local council. Sign this petition and help us keep the goal in Beach Lawn Gardens, ensuring that all people old and young can continue to enjoy this wonderful space.
Thank you for your support!
