Albany School District has had the same schedule for years. 8-hour classes, study hall, WIN/FLEX, early release on Wednesdays, etc. Currently, the superintendent, Kurt Soderberg, is trying to change this. Some things that he plans to change are getting rid of Study Hall and FLEX, shortening down band and choir classes to 30 minutes, getting rid of early release Wednesdays, cutting down elementary recess to only twice a day, and so forth. According to Kurt, this is "better for students". Many students, staff, and parents are heavily against this fundamental change. All this is due to happen in the 2023-2024 school year, but we can still get rid of it. This is extremely important due to the fact, it may cause stress on students, ruin the music department, and so much more. All of this is to raise test scores, yet remember we are a small school in Wisconsin, not a huge school. This entire change is NOT good for the student body or the staff and is very harmful. Admin did not give us a say on any of this, even though we and our teachers are the most affected. Since they cannot find a way to make sure our opinions are heard, we can.
