The Clerc Classic cheer competition, which began in 2000, has been an important tradition for deaf school cheerleaders for more than 25 years. Clerc Classic is a basketball tournament, but the three-hour cheer competition gives cheerleaders their own opportunity to compete, perform, and be celebrated by the entire athletic community.

We are asking the Clerc Classic organizers, superintendents, and athletic directors to reconsider eliminating the cheer competition. We understand that changes may be necessary and are willing to support adjustments to the format, including eliminating the individual portion, shortening the competition, or simplifying other parts.

Please don't eliminate the competition entirely. Three hours is a small part of the overall tournament, but it means so much to the cheerleaders who work all season for their opportunity to shine.
