Keep the Chenango County Area Agency on Aging as is
The Issue
If you haven’t heard, the County Board of Directors meeting, the board attempted to eliminate 9 positions from the Area Agency on Aging and were attempting to create a new department (Dept of Human Services) to put the AAoA under. They did so without the state’s knowledge or permission, which is required of any changes of this nature. Many supervisors were unaware of this proposal until they either heard about it on the news or from concerned constituents calling/emailing. There was a motion by Jeffrey to table to proposed staff cuts and reorganization until it could be studied further, seconded by Nabinger.
We, the undersigned, are standing up and acknowledging the negative impacts of restructuring and reducing the AAoA staff outside NYSOFA’s explicit mandates and regulations. Prior to the public meeting, we expect a public report of a retrospective study of services with case data and real hours spent on providing those services from 2023-present as well as a fully detailed plan on who will be providing these services to the standards set forth by NYSOFA, including all NYSOFA paperwork to ensure the changes are appropriate for the aging in our county.
The following is the full vote on the measure to table the actions.….
