The Issue

As an earnest Star Wars fan, I have grown up with the wonder and excitement of this franchise. These stories have shaped my childhood, my values, and my understanding of the universe. With recent news, however, I find my passion faltering. The proposed Star Wars series, "The Acolyte", has halted production recently. I firmly believe it should remain so. Not for lack of love for Star Wars, but rather because of it.

Perhaps my concern lies in the frequency and quality of the releases. In the span of two years (2021-2023), Disney+ has aimed to release at least 10 new Star Wars series (source: Disney's Investor Day 2020 announcement). An oversaturated market could diminish the value of each story, making them less of an exciting event and more of a common expectation.

Moreover, the diversity in directorship, while praiseworthy, raises concerns regarding a diluted overarching narrative – a concern justified by the lukewarm reception to the sequel trilogy's alleged lack of cohesive vision (source: Variety Magazine).

Keeping "The Acolyte" canceled is not about restricting creativity, but about preserving the quality and allure of Star Wars. It is about ensuring deliberate storytelling and maintaining our wonder of that galaxy far, far away.

It is for these reasons that I urge you to sign this petition. Let's enable Star Wars to preserve its magic, one less series at a time.
