The Issue

On November 5th, 1993, my world was shattered. I was only twelve years old when I lost my beloved mother, Mary Evon Jennings Fleetwood, to a horrific act of violence. My mother, a kind-hearted woman who loved her family above all else, was brutally attacked by her boyfriend, Stacey Anthony Tyler. That day, within the confines of her own home and witnessed by his friends, she endured a vicious beating. She was punched, kicked, and physically assaulted in a manner no human being should ever have to suffer.

But the brutality did not end there. After his friends had left, Stacey Anthony Tyler completed his heinous act by pouring gasoline over my mother and setting her alight with a match. This gut-wrenching act of violence robbed me of my mother and shattered our family forever.

Stacey Anthony Tyler stands convicted of this brutal murder and is currently on death row in North Carolina, where he rightly belongs. However, there are constant efforts to alter or reduce the sentences of convicted criminals, even when they've committed unspeakable acts of violence. It's imperative that justice is served and that the depth of his crime is not diminished or forgotten.

By keeping Stacey Anthony Tyler on death row, we uphold justice not only for my mother but for every victim who has suffered at the hands of unrepentant violence. We must remember that such a severe penalty serves as a reminder to society of the grave consequences of such brutal actions.

We implore the parole boards and legal systems in North Carolina and beyond to honor my mother’s memory by ensuring that Stacey Anthony Tyler remains on death row. Not only does this serve justice for my mother, but it sends a clear message that such violent crimes will not be tolerated and will be met with the utmost seriousness.

Please sign this petition to ensure that those who commit such heinous acts remain answerable for their crimes, safeguarding the values of justice and protection for victims and their families. Together, we can stand against violence and demand a justice system that holds perpetrators truly accountable.
