The Issue

For over 15 years, the Dunkin’ at 5889 Forbes Avenue has been far more than a place to grab a morning coffee—it has been an indispensable part of daily life in Squirrel Hill. As a certified kosher establishment under the Vaad Harabonim of Pittsburgh, this location bridges the gap between everyday convenience and religious observance for thousands of residents.

We are launching this petition to urge management, the franchisee, and corporate leadership to maintain this vital kosher certification.

A Rare and Necessary Staple

Squirrel Hill is the historic and cultural heart of Pittsburgh’s Jewish community, yet options for certified kosher dining are incredibly limited. In fact, this Dunkin’ is one of only two fast-food style establishments in the entire neighborhood where kosher-observant families, students, and professionals can grab a quick, affordable bite. Losing this status doesn't just mean changing a menu; it means stripping the community of 50% of its accessible, walkable fast-food options.

Why keeping Dunkin’ kosher matters:

Inclusivity for Families and Students: From local families treating their kids to a donut, to busy university students looking for a quick breakfast, this location provides an affordable, reliable option that fits their dietary needs.

A Neighborhood Gathering Space: Squirrel Hill thrives on its diversity. The Forbes Ave Dunkin' acts as a unique community hub where neighbors of all backgrounds and levels of religious observance can sit side-by-side.

Proven Customer Loyalty: The local community has fiercely supported this location for years precisely because it stepped up to meet the neighborhood's unique needs.

Taking away the kosher certification would alienate a deeply loyal customer base and leave a massive void in the community. We ask the Heartland Restaurant Group and Dunkin’ corporate to recognize the immense cultural value of this specific store and commit to keeping our Dunkin’ kosher.

Please sign and share to protect a piece of Squirrel Hill's neighborhood fabric!
