Keep school board trustees as elected officials in Ontario

Keep school board trustees as elected officials in Ontario
The Issue
Citizens Advocating for Democracy in Education - Ontario (CADE-O).
There is one thing we have in common and that is we've been to school.
And that includes all the Citizens of Ontario (parents, teachers, and our present students etc...).
The Ontario Government is considering a major change in the public education system by potentially removing democratically elected school board trustees. As a concerned citizen of Ontario (parent) and member of the Ontario community, citizens are deeply troubled by this prospect.
School board trustees serve as a vital link between the communities they represent and the schools. They advocate for the needs of students and parents, ensuring that our local voices influence decision-making processes in public education. Without these elected representatives, we risk losing the essential grassroots connection that ensures our children’s education is tailored to the unique needs of our community.
School board trustees in Ontario play significant roles in policy development, budget allocation, and improving student outcomes. They have held the education system accountable and have brought transparency to decisions that affect our children’s futures. Removing them from the equation would centralize power and diminish community influence.
This move contradicts the principles of democracy that Canada stands for. Trust in the education system comes from knowing that elected officials understand and advocate for our community’s priorities and challenges. The removal of school board trustees could pave the way for decisions that may not reflect the best interest of our children and schools.
We urge the Ontario Minister of Education to reconsider the decision to remove school board trustees. Instead, let's focus on strengthening their roles to further enhance our education system. Community input and representation are critical to maintaining a robust and responsive public education framework.
Join in defending democratic representation in our schools. Please sign this petition to retain elected school board trustees, ensuring a future where our community continues to have a voice in shaping public education.
