Keep Renaissance at Fischer School open for a Stronger District

Keep Renaissance at Fischer School open for a Stronger District
The Issue
Our own Renaissance at Fischer School, which is situated next to a library and has been pivotal in the educational growth of our children, is under threat. As a parent whose daughter had previously struggled with grade-level work, Renaissance at Fischer School stepped in to ensure that not only was she reaching the expected level, but she was now on the verge of surpassing it. This school has allowed countless students to flourish in their academic journeys, particularly with their reading and math goals. However, the proposal to close it off adds to the existing marble of four school closures in a single community, a striking reflection of ongoing inequity.
Our community has been very vocal about this. Renaissance at Fischer School provides various feasible options for remaining open, including possibly amalgamating with another school or transforming into a K-8 school. Our working families, who rely heavily on a school within walking distance, face choices for Renaissance at Fischer School students that are far from optimal for their family circumstances. Our school has one of the highest intra-district transfers. Our families choose our school for a reason. One of those reasons could be they also have one of the highest State testing scores in the District. It makes no sense to close a school like this.
This is indicative of a broader issue where we have overstuffed classrooms due to merely three middle schools remaining open. Keeping Renaissance at Fischer School open will, however, bolster our district by providing numerous opportunities for our students. We must stand against this threat to RAF and, in doing so, promote a vibrant, equitable educational environment for our children. Please support us in urging the district to rethink the closure and, instead, strengthen our community by preserving the Renaissance at Fischer School School. Sign this petition today.
