The Issue

As a parent of a child attending Park Crest Middle School, I can't stress enough how crucial this institution is to our community. This is not just a building where academic learning occurs; it's a second home to many of our children. It's a place where lifelong friendships are forged, where teachers mentor students not only academically but personally, and where parents like me find a supportive network.

The proposed closure of Park Crest Middle School, Pflugerville TX would not only disrupt the education of hundreds of students but also dismantle a tight-knit community atmosphere that has taken years to build. Most of us did not just get zoned in to our schools we moved here and chose our schools. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, middle schools are pivotal in shaping the social and cognitive development of young adolescents. Taking away this critical support system could have irreversible effects on their personal and academic growth.

One of the primary reasons for the proposed closure is budget cuts. However, reallocating resources or seeking alternative funding solutions, such as grants or community fundraising events, could preserve this essential institution. Moreover, maintaining the school could prevent overcrowding in neighboring middle schools, ensuring that each student receives adequate attention and resources.

We the Families were sent an email on 3/7/26 outlining the District Optimization Scenarios, we were given the weekend to review and asked to attend a meeting on 3/9/26. Although our input was requested; we all had more questions than answers were present but in the 2 hours we were asked to jot down as many points as possible that would be taken into consideration when a possible decision is made in May, 2 months! Each Family will be able to share their own respective points as to why we should keep P.C.M.S. open but we all are in need of more data. We need to fully view all 7 Middle Schools not just the 4 being proposed to us. We need to look at the forecasted impact on Traffic, Transportation, potential withdrawal from the ISD and Safety aspect of the longer distance walks to and from school to include after school activities. We may not have all the answers or plausible solutions but you have our attention now so open everything up to us so we can see how we got to this point and what outcomes truly work for our Pfuture generations.

We have the power to show our school district that Park Crest Middle School is worth saving. By collecting enough signatures, we can demonstrate that closing this school is not an option for our children, our community, and our Pfuture.

Please join me in preserving this vital part of our community by signing this petition and spreading the word to our neighbors. Let your voice be heard and help keep Park Crest Middle School open.
