In 2007 Australia signed on to phase-one of the Kyoto Protocol on climate change showing the world that we are prepared to do our bit to tackle this global problem.

Now it’s time for the second phase of Kyoto and we need your support to let our political leaders know that we want to be part of the global solution!

Climate change is a global challenge that needs a global fix. All countries need to work together if we are to protect Australia’s precious wildlife and places like the Great Barrier Reef from the impacts of climate change.

Recent years have shown promising signs, with record levels of investment in renewable energy around the world and a growing list of countries adopting national pollution targets.

Walking away from Kyoto now would be leaving a job half done, and leaving other countries in the lurch. That’s not an option for our environment, our planet, or our future.

Signing up to Kyoto2 doesn’t require anything more or less from Australia; it’s simply an extension of the existing commitments made by Australian politicians, and agreeing to be bound to this commitment under international law.

If you don’t think we should leave a job half done, let our leaders know that it’s time for a continued global approach to solving climate change. Ask them to get behind signing Kyoto2.

UPDATE:

We're making real progress.

The Federal Opposition has given their support for Kyoto2! Now the spotlight is on the Government to end the speculation and commit to joining phase two of the Kyoto Protocol.

Your signature can make that happen.

I've just signed the following petition:

I strongly support Australia signing on to the second phase of the Kyoto Protocol.

Climate change is a global challenge that needs a global fix. All countries need to work together if we are to protect Australia’s precious wildlife and places like the Great Barrier Reef from the impacts of climate change.

Signing up to Kyoto2 will send a signal to other countries that Australia is prepared to do its bit and expects others to do the same.

We took our place on the world stage by committing to phase one of the Kyoto Protocol. And we are set to meet our targets.

It would be irresponsible to leave a job half done.

All countries need to work together and Kyoto remains the basis of a coordinated, rules-based approach to global climate action.

Signing up to Kyoto2 doesn’t require anything more or less from Australia; it’s simply an extension of what all sides of politics have already promised to Australian voters.

You have said you are serious about tackling climate change. So please show it by committing to a global approach – get behind Australia signing Kyoto2.

Thank you,
