Keep officer Annie at our elementary school
The Issue
Our beloved security officer, Annie, is being unjustly taken away from our school, and we won’t let it happen without a fight. Annie is more than just a second security officer at our elementary school in Broward County; she is a crucial part of our community who plays an indispensable role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our children. Now, due to budget cuts, the Broward County School District plans to transfer her to a high school in Coral Springs, claiming our elementary school doesn't require two security officers.
This decision is simply misguided. With her unwavering dedication, officer Annie has made a significant impact on the lives of our students, parents, and staff. She goes beyond her duties to form strong relationships with our children, showing them the importance of kindness, courage, and safety. Her presence is a source of comfort not only to the children she watches over but also to the parents who trust her with their safety.
Statistics show that multiple security officers significantly increase school safety. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, schools with more security personnel report decreased incidents of violence and a higher sense of security among students and staff alike. In our rapidly changing world, maintaining comprehensive security at our school is not just a priority, but a necessity.
Removing Annie not only leaves a gap in our security but also takes away a caring individual who is deeply valued by our entire school community. With recent increases in regional school thefts and disturbances, having an additional security officer like Annie is more important than ever.
We urge the Broward County School Board to reconsider this decision and allocate resources to retain both security officers at our school.
