Dear Eagle Rock Elementary Families,

We are reaching out to ask for your support in advocating to fund an Assistant Principal position at Eagle Rock Elementary for the upcoming school year.

At this time, LAUSD will not be funding the Assistant Principal position for next year, meaning our school risks losing a critical leader and support system unless the district chooses to provide funding outside of our school’s current allocated budget.

As many of you know firsthand, Mr. Shum is deeply involved in the daily life of our campus. He is present every day supporting students, families, teachers, and staff — from supervising the playground and helping with student behavior and safety, to overseeing 504 plans, supporting our Special Education population, coordinating interventions, and helping with our after-school enrichment program of 40+ clubs.

Eagle Rock Elementary is a uniquely large and complex school community serving over 800 students from TK through 6th grade, including two magnet programs, multilingual families, twice-exceptional learners, and students with increased social-emotional and behavioral needs. Losing Mr. Shum’s position would place an unsustainable burden on the remaining administration and significantly impact the level of support available to students and families.

Most importantly, Mr. Shum genuinely cares about our children. He knows our students by name, is highly visible and accessible on campus, and consistently goes above and beyond for our school community.

Please sign our petition and help us advocate for LAUSD to district-fund and maintain the Assistant Principal position at Eagle Rock Elementary so Mr. Shum can continue supporting our students and families next year. We cannot guarantee that even if they do fund this position it will be Mr. Shum but we are hopeful it will be.

We also need to MAKE NOISE!  We are asking our community to PLEASE call and email Region East leadership and urge LAUSD to district-fund 100% a full time Assistant Principal position at Eagle Rock Elementary for the 2026–2027 school year.
