Keep Minerva in Aurora - NOT Geneva!

The Issue

Since the founding of Wells College, the statue of Minerva has been a beacon of inspiration for us. She has protected us, inspired us to think critically, reason wisely, and act humanely. Now, as we face the closure of our beloved campus, we are confronted with a heartbreaking reality - Minerva is being moved to Hobart William Smith College.

Minerva belongs here in Aurora. She stands proudly on the shores of Cayuga Lake where she has watched over generations of students and residents alike. Her presence is not just symbolic; it's deeply personal for all who have lived and learned under her watchful gaze.

The relocation to Hobart William Smith College in Geneva, NY disregards our history and connection with this emblematic figure. It undermines our shared identity that is intertwined with her presence in Aurora. Minerva MUST be repaired ASAP and permanently housed in Aurora.

We understand that changes are inevitable but moving Minerva from her rightful place would be an erasure of our collective memory and heritage. According to Greek mythology, Minerva represents wisdom and strategic warfare - values that have guided Wells College since its inception.

We believe these values should continue to guide future generations right here in Aurora.

We urge those responsible for this decision to reconsider their stance. Let's preserve our history; let's keep Minerva where she belongs - overlooking Cayuga Lake from her home in Aurora.

Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving local heritage and keeping symbols like Minerva at their rightful places.
