It has come to our attention that the Town of Landrum is considering the adoption of a new noise ordinance that would limit outdoor sound to 60 dB, which is roughly the volume of a quiet conversation.

We are deeply concerned that this change would effectively eliminate outdoor music in our community. A 60 dB limit would make it impossible for local businesses to host live bands and would even restrict something as simple as playing music over outdoor speakers.

We respectfully ask the Town of Landrum to follow the example set by surrounding towns and cities and adopt a more reasonable limit of 70 dB. This level protects community comfort while still allowing local businesses to provide the live music and outdoor entertainment that residents and visitors enjoy.

Local music contributes to the vibrancy, economy, and culture of our town. We urge the council to consider the significant negative impact a 60 dB limit would have on our community and to support an ordinance that balances quality of life with the continued success of Landrum’s small businesses.
