The Issue

Living opposite Glebe Field in South Stoke, South Oxfordshire, I am daily captivated by its breathtaking beauty—a living tapestry that transforms with the seasons. This vibrant green space is more than just land; it’s provides a connection to nature, evoking wonder and offering peace and inspiration to countless residents, including myself.

The Friends of Glebe Field, a community of dedicated and passionate advocates, are determined to safeguard this beautiful area. Our goal is to preserve Glebe Field as a space for rejuvenation, wildlife, and community. The proposed development would irreversibly alter the landscape, depriving future generations of this unique treasure.

Since 2015, Glebe Field has faced development proposals, often linked to Parish Council efforts to secure funding for projects like a village shop. In a 2022 consultation and during September 8, 2025, Parish Council meeting, residents strongly opposed development, stating it would divide community and harm quality of life. The Chair of the Parish Council agreed to drop the matter, yet his October 13, 2025 report of the recent talks with the Diocese of Oxford, the landowner, has showed the Diocese interest in social housing and potential of providing funding for a new village shop.

Development is unsuitable under the South Oxfordshire Local Plan 2035. Glebe Field is protected by Policy ENV1 (AONB), and South Stoke, a Smaller Village with no housing allocations (Policy H1), lacks infrastructure for social housing (Policy H10).

Let’s unite as Friends of Glebe Field. Join us by signing this petition and taking a stand against development.

Act now to ensure Glebe Field remains a green space for current and future generations.
