Keep Free Parking in Portishead, Clevedon and Nailsea!

Keep Free Parking in Portishead, Clevedon and Nailsea!
The Issue
North Somerset Council have approved the implementation of parking charges in Clevedon. Nailsea and Portishead despite huge public opposition.
They have said that they would be happy for the respective Town Councils to take over the running of car parks if they wanted to keep parking free for their residents.
Well, what do they mean by that? It seems that NSC want the following to keep free parking.
1, Town Councils would have to pay all running costs (repairs/maintenance )
2, Town Councils would have to pay the business rates on the car parks
3, Town Councils would be responsible for all car parking administration
4. Town Councils would pay North Somerset for a short-term lease on the car parks with potential regular price increases
5, Town Councils would potentially pay a yearly variable fee to North Somerset to cover any loss of income.
This could all add up to many thousands and be much more than any Town Council can afford.
The car park land belongs to you, the people of Clevedon Nailsea and Portishead and was most of it was gifted to North Somerset through historic local government reorganisations.
Sound fair to you or not?
If North Somerset can’t afford to keep car parks free then it could just transfer them to our Town Councils on a cost neutral basis to North Somerset, so that they can be run by local people for local people. After all, the car parks belong to the tax payers of Clevedon, Nailsea and Portishead
