Why this petition matters

Started by Richard Harrington

The current council in Tunbridge Wells is looking at ways to increase income. One of the ways they are considering is to introduce parking charges in both car parks.

The park is a fantastic amenity enjoyed by many people from the town and further afield. It boasts a meadow, boating lake, fishing points, a waterfall, and a grecian temple, to name just a few highlights.

The introduction of parking fees is being justified due to a tiny number of users who use the park to go into town. However, for these users, they will simply park on some of the surrounding roads around permit times.

Many of those who use the park are mobility limited, or have young and small children. They will spend a log time here, enjoying one of the few easily accessible outdoor areas.

By introducing fees, it disproportionately impacts these users, along with many others. At a time when the cost of living crisis is taking hold, the council should be looking at ways to encourage free activities, not taking these opportunities away.

By signing this petition, you will be sending a clear message to the council - that access to our park should be free to all, and should not be used as a money grab on its users.
