Keep Concerts At the Forest Hills Stadium Sign & Keep the Concerts Happening!
The Issue
The legendary Forest Hills Stadium that has been a vital part of Forest Hills, Queens, NY for over 100 years, attracting tens of thousands of visitors. The stadium may be forced to halt its concerts. The Forest Hills Stadium is part of Forest Hills history and of our community. Without the Forest Hills Stadium hosting concerts throughout the season music lovers will be denied the experience of seeing live performances featuring their favorite artists in a unique setting and participating in cultural events. The concerts bring everyone together to enjoy the music that feeds our souls. So, let's not lose the concerts that do just that! Not only do the concerts bring joy to the audiences, create local jobs, but they boost the local economy of the neighborhood restaurants, bars and shops.
The 13,000-seat capacity stadium, with fantastic acoustics, and unobstructed views make this the only outdoor venue of its kind and size in the city.
Starting in the 1920's the stadium was home to the U.S. Open Tennis tournaments. Moving into the 1960's the stadium held concerts featuring The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, The Rolling Stones, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan to name a few of musical icons that graced the stage.
Updated in 2013 with a number of state-of-the-art upgrades it has since welcomed a new golden age of diverse superstars and sell-out performances by Drake, Dolly Parton, Mumford and Sons, The Alabama Shakes, Ed Sheeran and many more.
On a personal note, my parents were acclaimed musicians. And I grew up attending concerts and ballets in all sorts of venues across many states. Today so much music is not performed live. Let's keep this venue and all music venues open for business. The chamber has a mission statement known as the 3 C's - commerce, culture and community. Commerce makes the community thrive and culture brings the community together. And I know this is true because just like the Free Outdoor Jazz Concerts I founded 20 years ago Forest Hills residents and people from all over NYC come out to enjoy music, bringing everyone together for great evenings of music.
There is a century of history that has been created here. It is inconceivable that Forest Hills might lose its world class concerts held in an amazing stadium, located in an enchanting location. Lets' keep the Forest Hills Stadium alive for another 100 years!
