Speaking with several people in power your signed petitions are more important than ever. The CRTC takes the Public's input very seriously. Although there is no guarantee which way this will go, one thing is for sure, is that the demand by the public will cause them to consider what is more important, the Public interest or the interest of the companies involved.

The only reason that the 98.7 frequency was granted use was that the CRTC and Heritage said that the need for the African and Caribbean Community to have ownership, editorial voice, and programming was imperative.  It was also implied that the community was left disenfranchised when Flow changed its programming to remove Reggae, Soca, and Talk. At that time Flow still had Black on-air hosts and Intercity broadcasting still insisted that the community was suffering.  Now Flow no longer has Black on-air hosts the Black community would suffer even more in terms of employment opportunities as it has been proven over the years in radio broadcasting. So it is imperative that the CRTC ensures that the Black Community has ownership even if it means taking one of its government-owned properties to ensure this happens.  The Broadcast Act is in the process of being rewritten to address many of these concerns that the community has.   The more signatures and comments we get to put on public record is the more likely they will include the things that matter to us.

Please personally reach out to 5 of your friends who have not yet signed and ask them to sign. We can get to 50,000 by the end of next week if we all do this. That would represent roughly 10% of the community in Toronto. This will be the largest intervention on public record that the CRTC has probably ever seen.  With all the corporations who have pledged money to support the community, it would be a shame if we lost the opportunity to succeed now after all the years of struggle. It would be a bigger shame if another community owns our format and benefits from our struggle and pain.

Share this petition and let's make a mega impact. We thank all of the allies from outside the Black community that continues to support us.

Attached is the letter Mr. Gordon Providing to the CRTC to acquire the initial license. His dream was for the Community to always have the station. That is why he agreed to such strict terms.

Letter will also be available www.blackownedradio.weebly.com
