Keep Christmas alive in UK schools by reinstating Christmas cards
The Issue
Throughout my life in the UK, I've cherished the tradition of Christmas—the magical time of year when families come together, communities unite, and our country shines with festive spirit. As someone who is half Burmese but deeply rooted in Christianity, I've witnessed firsthand the beauty and harmony traditional celebrations bring to our society. However, I'm deeply concerned about the recent trend in schools of replacing Christmas cards with 'winter cards' or other generic substitutes.
This isn't just a mild disappointment—it's a significant shift away from a tradition that has been a cornerstone of British culture for centuries. The move to dilute or erase Christmas traditions under the guise of inclusivity or modernization threatens the rich tapestry of our collective history, which is, at heart, a Christian country.
For our children, these traditions play an important role in understanding their heritage, learning about cultural celebrations, and experiencing the joy and community spirit that Christmas brings. When we replace these customs with more generic versions, we risk confusing them about their own traditions and overlook the importance of embracing the cultural diversity we already have.
Other countries proudly celebrate their traditional holidays and encourage communities to share in those celebrations. We should afford the same respect and recognition to Christmas—an integral part of our culture here in the UK.
I believe wholeheartedly in the message of love, joy, and unity that Christmas cards symbolize. They are not merely decorations or seasonal tokens; they are reminders of the values and beliefs that our nation holds dear.
I am calling on the leaders of all UK schools to bring back the tradition of Christmas cards and honor our unique cultural heritage. By signing this petition, you are not just supporting a cherished holiday tradition but also standing for the preservation of our identity and the values we pass on to future generations.
Please join me in this cause, and let's keep the spirit of Christmas alive for all the children across the UK. Sign the petition and make a difference for our communities and our traditions.
