Hi Everyone,
Our petition continues to grow every day. Its a strong sign that our community wants no part of extra alcohol being served in Byron CBD after 12am. Full stop.
One of our key supporters Jan Barham is working tirelessly in the background trying to help the key government decision makers understand how wrong this SEP proposal is for our town and wider community.
Jan is participating in the webinar coming up shortly. TODAY at 12.30pm..."What do the NSW Vibrancy (SEP) laws mean for public health and safety"....see link below to register.
Jan will be participating with two key industry leaders from the medial profession; Dr John Crozier and Dr Tony Brown. We encourage you to listen and share the link to other concerned community members and friends.
Once again, the Echo has kindly placed our QR code on the back page of this weeks edition of the newspaper. Its easy to refeer friends and family to the QR code and have them sign and share.
Once again ask for all to share the link to others who may not yet have seen it. I myself have been posting on the Mullum, Byron and Bruns facebook community pages to get the message out there....yes to vibrancy measures between say 9am and 11pm but no to more alcohol in our town after 12am.
Separate to the SEP, just look at the soon to be approved Merivale DA for Justin Hemmes new re-vamped Cheeky Monkeys...going form the old original 180 approved limit on patrons and increased to 550 patrons. So on top of the current flood of patrons onto the streets at closing time, thats 550 more flooding out at 1-2am to try to get home safely whether walking or driving becasue we all know there is never enough taxis, ubers or buses in Byron at that time of the early morning, or any other time for that matter.
On top of the 550 patrons, the last thing we need is more venues approved to sell alcohol after 12am...makes zero sense....keep the pressure on Council and the State Govt.
The petition will stay live til around mid November. The Council hopes to put the SEP trial to a vote of the Councillors at the council meeting at the end of November.
Just an observation...the PRO SEP petition has 160 signatures and is virtually stalled and our petition has 715 signatures and growing....thats over 4 times as many against the SEP....a fairly firm majority in any one's view.
Thanks for the ongoing support.
Cheers,
Anthony
