The Issue

These officers are a HUGE part of the school communities they serve. They know students by their names and needs, and their presence is invaluable in creating a safe learning environment. They respond quickly and compassionately, understanding the unique and complex dynamics of each school, which is something that goes beyond mere law enforcement. Their awareness of traffic patterns, driven by the demands of both school schedules and road conditions, ensures that students arrive and leave safely. They have established themselves as respected authority figures on campus, not just for their position, but for the genuine relationships they have built with students, teachers, and parents alike.

Current Bulverde PD School Resource Officers (SROs) are essential in fostering an environment where students feel secure and supported. By forming healthy, respectful relationships, they contribute to a positive school culture that cannot be easily replaced. The presence of these officers goes beyond safety; it is about maintaining an environment where learning can thrive because everyone feels protected and valued.

There have been discussions about the potential replacement of the Bulverde Police Department officers with county sheriff officers, which would be a detrimental move. This would disrupt the intricate web of trust and security the Bulverde Police officers have woven over YEARS of dedicated service to the schools in which they serve. Students, teachers, and parents are united in their support for their continued presence because they see the daily benefits and critical support the officers provide.

Replacing them would disregard the community’s needs and the significant positive impact they have built. It's vital to acknowledge their role not only as peacekeepers but as influential mentors and community builders. Their absence would leave a void that could compromise the safety and emotional well-being of the students and undermine the progress made in building trusting relationships and "growing greatness."

We urge the CISD Board to reconsider any plans to remove the Bulverde Police Department officers from our schools. Let’s protect the integrity of our school communities and ensure that students can continue to learn in a secure and nurturing environment.

Please sign this petition to keep our dedicated officers in schools, where they are needed the most not only for safety but for ongoing mentorship and community support. Your signature is a step towards preserving the sense of safety and trust that our children need to succeed.
