A call was made very late at night in October 2020. Still half asleep, the mother was informed that her (adopted) son's (wormy) little 2 week old brother was taken by DCF and they where hoping she could take him. She cried because she had to say no, the family had a lot going on, but she didn't want her son to lose out on the opportunity to grow up with his brother. 

She thought of the next best thing, later that morning she called her friend, Annmarie, and asked if she would be interested in fostering baby M so they could raise brothers together. Annmarie agreed and they went to work contacting the case manager and getting things done. In November, Annmarie got baby M for the first time for respite care during Thanksgiving and everyone got to meet him. Wormy was so excited to have his baby brother! In December 2020, baby M was placed with Annmarie on a permanent basis. 

Annmarie and Wormy's mom reached out to the grandparents and the uncle a few months later. The Grandparents where happy baby M was in a loving home and got to see his brother everyday. The Grandpa even told the uncle to leave the baby where he was. Uncle explained that he was asked to take the baby so birth mom could be his mom when she get done with her prison sentence, but he had zero intentions of trying to get baby M, that baby M was in a great home and didn't want to mess that up. 

Then a few months later, Annmarie was notified that uncle changed his mind and wanted baby M.  Worm's mom reached out to Uncle and told him Wormy, his nephew, would like to speak to him, get to know him and had some difficult questions that she can't answer; such as why would my uncle take my brother but not me? Why does my brother have to leave me? Uncles response was basically, it's 4th of July weekend, it will have to wait until after that. It's been almost a year and uncle has still made no attempt to contact wormy.... 

Annmarie had a bonding study done that shows baby M is bonded with her and if DCF was to remove him, it will cause irreparable psychological damage know as Reactive Attachment Disorder. There is also a new Bill signed into law SB 80 that states if a child has been in a placement for 9 months or longer it is NOT in their best interest to be moved just because of a biological relationship - yet all of this is being ignored by our DCF system and our judicial system. The people that are supposed to protect vulnerable children are the very ones inflicting severe and lasting damage to their mental well-being. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE ! What about baby M's BIOLOGICAL BROTHER that Baby M sees all the time, they have sleep overs and play together.... they are brothers, the longest biological bond a person can have in their lives! 

Uncle has NOT made ONE attempt to get to know baby M or wormy. He lives in another state and has NOT ONCE CALLED, NOT ASKED FOR PICS OR MORE IMPORTANTLY NOT VISITED TO TRY TO BUILD A BOND!!! Baby M has no idea who this man is, he is a complete stranger. Further more uncle will not even be the one to raise baby M, as he "works all the time," so his wife, with NO BIOLOGICAL RELATIONSHIP, will be left to raise baby M and she also has never attempted to reach out to get to know baby M. Uncle made his intentions clear, he only wants to do this for his sister so that she can be the mom she never got a chance to be, due to her own poor decisions, repeatedly. When DCF terminates a parents rights, it's because that person is a danger to the child. 

Annmarie has raised baby M since just about birth, has never gotten a dime from the state, the uncle never offered to get diapers, never sent a present, never called to say happy birthday, merry Christmas, how's the baby feeling, NOTHING! Annmarie has kept in touch with birth mom and reached out to uncle several times. 

Our system is broken, Annmarie was denied an evidentiary hearing to object to moving baby M to uncle, despite SB 80 stating she is entitled to that! Please help stop this move! Keep baby M with Annmarie, the ONLY MOTHER HE KNOWS, and with his biological brother. Any other placement is not in the best interest of baby M.
