WHEREAS, the rates for electricity for all residential Ontario ratepayers increased 13.3% from Jan 2015 to Jan 2016 and 85.6% since Jan 2010.   

WHEREAS, Hydro One is the only electricity distributor in Ontario that charges different rates for Delivery and Line loss factors based on residential density and Low Residential Density delivery charges are now 87.4% higher than Urban Residential Density delivery charges.

WHEREAS,  the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit was created to reduce the effect of the implementation of Clean Energy initiatives and the costs of FIT programs continue to increase charges on electricity bills.

WHEREAS,  the Debt Retirement Charge has been paid but businesses in Ontario continue to be charged.

WE the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows:

·      An immediate freeze to per kWh prices for all of Ontario ratepayers for a minimum of 2 years.

·      An immediate freeze to Hydro One delivery charges for a minimum of 2 years to facilitate the elimination of the abusive residential density groups and create a standard monthly delivery charge, and equal line loss factors for all Hydro One residential ratepayers.

·      The reinstatement of the 10% Clean Energy Benefit on electricity bills for all Ontario ratepayers.

·      A moratorium be placed on all new FIT contracts and a thorough cost /benefit analysis to be done by the Ontario Auditor General.

·      The removal of the Debt Retirement charge on all electricity bills in Ontario including businesses.
