Eliminate Ontario's breed specific ban on Pitbulls.

Eliminate Ontario's breed specific ban on Pitbulls.

The Issue

It has been well over 10 years since Ontario's Breed Specific Pitbull ban came into effect. This law has marginalized a breed of dog based on human actions and irresponsible ownership. Rather than placing harsher penalties on those caught engaging in acts of irresponsible ownership, such as the well known breeding for dog fights, the government chose to ban the breed as a whole, as if the dogs themselves are responsible. Pitbulls have been subjected to abuse and neglect from backyard breeding, dog fights and also the ban. The ban has created nothing except enforce irrational fear of an animal that is not to be feared, but to be loved like any other domestic dog in Ontario households. These poor dogs since 2005 have been subjected to wear muzzles as if to advertise 'do not to get too close because only Pitbulls will bite'. Further installing in citizens minds that due to this law, people are now safe. Rather than punishing the people who did wrong, pitbulls have been punished with stereotypes, and neglect. Ontario has bigger problems than a single breed of dog. Sign this petition to move Ontario past the stigma.
