EndPoliceBrutalityInOregon
The Issue
Keizer Police Chief John Teague has a history of inappropriate conduct in regards to police & citizen interactions.
His accusations of "not true" as well as ill-mannered & petulant response to a local mother at a Keizer City Council meeting who testified that her young Black son had a gun pulled on him & was racially profiled by KPD illustrates he cannot be an impartial and fair arbiter even in receiving public feedback. This attitude is already deeply troubling given his authority over an entire police dept.
His statement during an NAACP meeting on policing, which he was well aware was being recorded, as it was a Zoom meeting, regarding those not wanting to be murdered at the hands of police should simply "obey" shows a breathtaking lack of regard for the safety of citizens he's sworn to protect & serve. This coming just days after the aforementioned incident demonstrates that this is a pervasive problem for Teague and not a simple one-off gaffe.
These were simply the two most readily available examples of his behavior caught on camera. We encourage others who've been treated poorly, dismissed or otherwise maltreated to submit testimony thusly:
