Keep The Kansas City Chiefs Name!

The Issue

According to an Article Posted by Fox4KC, it mentions that, “Some people are calling for the Chiefs to do the same after announcements were made that the Washington Redskins were retiring their NFL football name and will soon announce a new name.

The Kansas City Chiefs football organization is facing mounting pressure to change their name and much of the Native American imagery that takes place at games. But the indigenous community is torn on the matter.

Rhonda LeValdo, a faculty member at Haskell Indian Nations University, agreed that it’s time for Kansas City to Change it’s Football name as well and get rid of the name “Chiefs”.

We cannot change everything based off what has been happening the last few months. We cannot change things based on what others are insulted by or how they feel that it’s sensitive to them. Our world is becoming more and more ignorant and selfish and wants things done their way or the highway and we can’t continue to let others change who we are as Kansas City, our history, and our traditions.

This matter is an insult to our community, to the Chiefs organization, and to the fans of this iconic football team. The Kansas City Chiefs should forever be kept as “The Kansas City Chiefs” football team in the National Football League and we demand that this name should never be changed at all!

Most people who want things to be changed never took the time to study the history of our world and use other excuses to make others think the same way which causes a cycle of other people who support this type of change.

The Kansas City Chiefs weren’t even named after an Native American Tribe. If people knew the real name behind it, they would understand that the Kansas City Chiefs were named in honor of our former Kansas City Mayor Harold Roe Bartle. He’s responsible for the team’s move from Texas to Kansas City and his nickname was “Chief.”

I personally do not agree with what LeValdo said in the article by Fox4KC. “From the tomahawk chop to the iconic war drum, LeValdo said it’s time for the Super Bowl champs to rebrand themselves. “Unless they change the name, people are still going to use it and use native imagery. I think they just have to redo everything and right a historic wrong,”

We cannot continue to change our history, a name that is apart of our city and for everyone who works, lives, and breaths here. We are a city who comes together in support of the Kansas City Chiefs.

DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME! I DEMAND IT. If others want to demand change then I demand this. I will never ever forgive those who stands by this nonsense. The Chiefs make Kansas City home and as a community that stands reunited just like the Royals, The KC Mavericks, Sporting KC, and other sports team here in Kansas City.

If you change the name of the Kansas City Chiefs then consider changing the Royals name because it’s offensive to the Royal Family of the United Kingdom and other Royal Families around the world. Change Sporting KC’s name since it’s offensive to all sporting clubs. Change the T-Bones Baseball name since it’s offensive to cows and the food industry. Change The Kansas City Mavericks name since it’s offensive to those who used to call them the “Missouri Mavericks”.

We cannot let this happen and I want my voice heard!
