Last night, I finished writing to as many former Squidoo charities as I could. Some nonprofit organizations were no longer in existence, some had websites "under construction", and some had no contact email. I noticed that a few people from these charities signed our petition and so I'm sending out a heartfelt thanks to all of them. It means more than you know. Another charity personally responded to me with this: "Hello, Rose, Thank you for writing. The amount of donations we received was perhaps less than ten cents each month. I was not sure how that worked. We have received no donations for several years." And so, I replied: "Thank you for responding. Writers on Squidoo had the option to have royalties be automatically sent to the charities of their choice. We didn't have any means to verify IF the charities actually received this money. And sadly, when news first broke about Squidoo being sold to HubPages, I discovered Seth Godin had plans to donate "any monies in reserve under $25" to the Acumen Fund (where HE was – and still is – an advisor). This money belonged to the writers who wanted some (or all) of their earnings to benefit charity. So, the fact that you received only pennies and received "no donations for several years" is really telltale. I appreciate your candor. If you do not feel my petition would be of any benefit for you to sign, I understand. I've been trying to reach out to everyone affected by this mess and I have faith that California's attorney general will see justice served. Most respectfully, Rose Webster Google Plus: https://plus.google.com/u/0/107889574670988423996 If any of you are aware of other charities or former Squidoo writers who did NOT receive all of their deserved income, please let me know. I will do my utmost to contact them. For those on HubPages right now, I sincerely hope you will consider signing my petition. Not only to receive ALL the money you earned, but to protect yourself from possible future identity theft (by removing your author content). The black market value of your SSN is about $30 and your date of birth is around $11. Source: http://www.bankrate.com/finance/credit/high-cost-of-identity-theft.aspx BTW, I understand that a Canadian writer had to send in a copy of her passport to HubPages in order to be paid. I would welcome comments from her (or anyone in a similar position). In a HubPages forum post (2 months ago), eduguy1 stated: "I used to make a lot of lenses [articles] on Squidoo and ended up making about 14 dollars for charity. Now I'm on HubPages and there seems to be no way I can choose to donate the money, or even collect the money without submitting tax information. Why is it like this?" Source: http://hubpages.com/community/forum/133408/came-late-from-squidoo Yes, indeed eduguy1: WHY IS IT LIKE THIS? Will be in touch, Rose
