A couple of weeks ago, I reported a possible glitch in my (our) petition graph. After a couple of bug reports, I heard back from "Maricela." She explained: "According your question, if signatures are being tallied correctly. Ensuring the integrity of our petitions is vitally important to us and we put significant resources towards spam detection. We monitor all petitions, all the time - 24 hours a day. We have a multi-layered process of automatic detection and human investigation, and our staff is constantly evolving our tools and improving our systems to keep pace with potential hackers and spammers. Like any online platform, Change.org is regularly targeted by would-be spammers. This spam can take many forms, one of which is adding fake signatures to petitions. This kind of spam is almost always caught before it goes live on the site. In extremely rare instances petitions have been the target of successful spam attacks that added inauthentic signatures to the petition. In these instances our policy is to immediately cut off the source of the spam, remove the fraudulent signatures and bring the signature count down to its authentic number." So, I suppose we have 34 signatures. But that's okay. I checked out other petitions and found that many do not "take off" for at least six to eight months. (Even so, some petitions have been successful with relatively few signatures). The main thing is that we keep on letting others know that innocent people and charities have been denied their rightful earnings because of deceptive and unfair business practices. No one should be required to surrender their tax information (nor permanently "join" a platform) to obtain their rightful earnings or donations for charity. Furthermore, there is nothing fair about "consent by omission" as claimed by a shill I reported: https://www.change.org/p/kamala-harris-hubpages-writers-are-entitled-to-all-earnings-and-removal-of-their-author-content/u/14422110 Numerous Squidoo authors were ill, away, or unaware their work and profile (including their online identity) was stolen. It was sold by Seth Godin to HubPages. And both Squidoo and HubPages share the identical clause: "Squidoo does not claim ownership of the Content you place on your Lens. The Content will be owned by you or a third party from whom you got permission to post the content." Source: https://web.archive.org/web/20110702060040/http://www.squidoo.com/squidoo/65355501-Terms-of-Service [Also see Squidoo's privacy policy "7. Our privacy policy is your privacy policy" which states: First things first here: we don't ever sell your email address, and we don't ever spam. We're also committed to keeping your lenses and identity protected from others off the site who (who knows?) may try to spam you. Like most sites, we do make surfer behavior available to ad serving services, so that the right ads can be served to the right people. We will NEVER, however, disclose personally identifying information, except as specifically authorized by you or in the good faith belief that such action is reasonably necessary to comply with the law, legal process, to enforce these Terms of Service, or under any of the other circumstances set forth in our privacy policy.] Now, check out HubPages Terms of Use: http://hubpages.com/help/user_agreement It states: "HubPages does not claim ownership of Your Hub Content or Author Content. Such content will be owned by You or a third party from whom You got permission to post the content." ". . . from whom you got PERMISSION to post the content." [Let THAT sink in for a moment. For some reason, Paul Edmondson of HubPages et al. never felt the need to ask each content owner for his or her permission to post our content. Why is that?] Some people felt that only Seth Godin was to blame, but Paul Edmondson is JUST AS CULPABLE (perhaps more). Because he is held to the Laws of California. California's receiving stolen property law, Penal Code 496, imposes harsh criminal penalties on people who buy, receive, conceal, sell, or withhold from the owner, ANY property that they know has been stolen. “Stolen property” means property that has been stolen in any way — through California grand theft or petty theft, and also through California embezzlement or Penal Code 518 extortion. Source: http://www.shouselaw.com/stolen-property.html Finally, I've written to about 100 charities so far. There are over 200 charities that partnered with Squidoo and perhaps more than I listed in my petition update: https://www.change.org/p/kamala-harris-hubpages-writers-are-entitled-to-all-earnings-and-removal-of-their-author-content/u/14475122 Let me know if there are charities I've missed. It was nice to hear back from DonnaBellas Angels who thanked me for my email. Hope your weekend is peaceful, Rose
