CANCER COALITION PHILIPPINES STATEMENT ON THE APPROVAL OF HB 8636
A COLLECTIVE EFFORT BEARS FRUIT
The Cancer Coalition Philippines would like to extend its gratitude to the members of the House of Representatives for approving on third reading House Bill 8636 or the National Integrated Cancer Control Act.
Reps. Helen Tan, Alfred Vargas, Chiqui Roa-Puno, Karlo Nograles, Jericho Nograles, Bernadette-Dy, Geraldine Roman are just some of the almost 200 co-authors who without their initiative this bill will never see the light of day. Their collective effort is very laudable.
The approval of the House of Representative reflects the immeasurable value legislators place on persons with cancer of any stage, age, gender and income bracket.
The Coalition looks forward to a bi-cameral committee’s reconciled version from both the upper and lower house, and subsequent approval soon.
With cancer as the number 2 cause of death for adults and children and with projections pointing to an 80% increase of cancer incidence in 12 years, it is with utmost importance that this law be passed without delay to ensure that a national and integrated approach to cancer control gets underway.
The Philippine Senate approved on third reading last 12 November 2018 its version of the Cancer Bill or Senate Bill Number 1850.
