Please help to stop the closure of The Baverstock Academy (LEAP Academy Trust) in Birmingham.
Baverstock Academy was established in 1983 in area of Birmingham which has always faced severe social and economic problems as it still does today. With ongoing cuts to services and the uncertain future of community centres and projects within the local area the school has always been the constant force of stability to the community and now this is at risk with the closure of the school.
Under the former long respected Headteacher Mr. Roger Perks O.B.E and the staff of past and present that have actively engaged and given there commitment to working with and protecting everyone in the local community have seen massive benefits for the community. Allowing the community to participate in the school has seen greater opportunities in extra learning clubs and sports groups for many to attend in but this will all be lost with the closure.
The school have always seen its role to actively help and improve the relationships across families and the community to improve the lives, opportunities and also raise aspirations for all within the area. The school’s committed to give its all, accept no compromise, consider no failure to ensure that the young people in the community should have the same opportunities that are enjoyed by their peers in more privileged situations which has been honored for many years by the school. Allowing past students to go on to great success from there time at the school in a variety of careers. The school is admired by all within the community who have fond memories of it.
The school is facing closure in August 2017. If the school closes, the children will be relocated to other schools with the possibility of been at a considerable distance across the city, which will have a devastating impact and disruption on them and a greater impact on family life, that the school have already supported and helped to improve will all be at risk.
We understand the current pressures facing the school but feel that it has the ability to get over these problems with the correct leadership and support from all the necessary parties. The students, staff and the community need not be punished for the mistakes made by past leadership as the school is a vital service for the community and its future success. We all want to find a solution to keep the school open and active within the community. Birmingham City Council have expressed there concerns and problems, stating that they are unable to help the school stay open due to its status as an Academy but would like to see it stay open for the sake of the community and its success.
The school have always made it a policy to never turn there back or give up on a child as every child deserves a chance and the opportunity to do well in life and the community want to return that favour with its huge support and backing of the Academy not closing. This time Baverstock needs to be given a chance as it has always done for so many of us before. This is our school and our community.
The wonderful, caring and supportive education given at Baverstock Academy, as well as 30 years of expertise, work and values, will be lost forever if it closes. We must fight this at all costs. Please sign this petition to help save Baverstock Academy, for both its current pupils and those to come in the future and most importantly for the stability and success of our community.
