All hospitality and service workers who have been laid off during the COVID-19 pandemic deserve a law passed that guarantees the right to return to our jobs  safely whenever employers reopen.

We stand in solidarity to lobby all levels of the Canadian government to ensure there this bill provides laid-off workers with a “right of recall,” requiring employers to offer to rehire laid-off workers when their former or similar positions become available.

In the face of massive layoffs, the lobbying for this type of legislation ensures workers are able to keep their jobs if ownership of a property changes hands during the economic crisis and expands protections for workers to take family care and medical leave, among other measures to help working families survive the pandemic.

Hospitality workers who are fortunate enough to regain their jobs in the hospitality industry will be operating in the “new normal.” They will be wearing masks, and in many cases gloves, with social distancing and constant sanitizing of tables, chairs, desks and other common surfaces.


We all lose somewhere and something special if that independent restaurant, cafe or bar closes! Imagine that hard day at work what ever industry your in, and all you look forward to is to meet your friends, partners or just be alone and enjoy whatever it is that special place offers you.

If we don’t receive support, hard working passionate people will lose their livelihoods. The corporations will survive, but the hospitality workers won’t.

This petition is a call to arms to fight for all hospitality workers in Toronto; what we need includes but is not limited to:

-There is work for employees to do.

-The work can be done safely.

-The work can be done in compliance with public health orders and recommendations and government declarations.

-Transparency about a timeline, so we can prepare in a rational, practical manner.

-Most importantly we need decisive action on recall and retention for the hospitality industry, so we can begin moving forward.

The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.
