Provide housing security for vulnerable Montrealers

Le problème

We strive to spread awareness of the issue gravitating around the homeless people as they don’t often receive the support they need.

In 2018, there were over 3000 homeless in the city of Montreal. However, the number have probably increased substantially since the start of the pandemic because COVID ruined a lot of people's financial situation. In addition, the pandemic forced shelters to close that were previously open 24/7. In some cases, these individuals have to be socially and racially profiled even by the authorities. Many of them received fines up to 6,000$ for being out past the curfew. According to five researchers from Université de Montreal, Université de Sherbrooke and Ottawa University, there are over 50,000 tickets issued to homeless people between 2012 and 2019 (Nerestant).

While there are multiple organizations that support homeless people, the government and the authorities still wont advocate for the homeless. Moreover, we aim to motivate Montrealers to acknowledge this social injustice present in our society and to fight for homeless rights. Together united, we hope that our voice is strong enough to change the mindset of the government to support this cause.

There are several associations and shelters that you can help monetarily or by other means if you are in a situation to do so. Here are some of them. Go check them out:
