Palliative care (pain management and supports) for ALL
The Issue
i never thought at 32, that I would be faced with decisions like this. I thought I would be picking out my wedding dress, moving into my first home, picking out baby names. Instead, I’m planning my celebration of life, deciding whether I want to be cremated or buried,
Death and dying are two hard truths that none of us can hide from. I get it’s scary.. but I’ve always subscribed to the idea that knowledge can be turned into power. According to the institute of health, most people surveyed, would prefer to die at home. Of those; only 15% of Canadians will live out their wish.
I wonder.. do you and your loved ones know what palliative care is, in Canada? It’s the first line of defends when you are handed a hard blow like I was.. With increasing symptoms, along with pain and the anxiety of what’s to come.. I would ask you or your loved one, “do you believe ALL Canadians deserve quality palliative care? Resources like pain management, therapy, amd support.
Well.. according to a large majority of palliative doctors - unless you have cancer; you don’t get care. Some of the supports that are lacking in healthcare, that palliative clinics offer is specialized therapy for people who are dying, the knowledge that their pain would be taken care of; right until the end. These are all aspects of care that shouldn’t be discriminated on, based on the type of disease that’s killing you. We all deserve to leave this earth in comfort, in our beds; at our homes, out of pain, and surrounded by loved ones.
If you believe every canadian deserves the best quality of care, helping them to transition to end of life care.. then please join me in signing this petition. Unless we stand up and give a voice to those who can’t; nothing will ever change, and people will continue to suffer. All it takes is one signature from you, and a possible share.
