Millions of people around the world are prisoners in their own homes, thousands dead and millions more at the risk of dying. Families weep for their matriarchs and patriarchs, many for the breadwinners in their households.
 
Medical systems around the world, in the most advanced countries face failure, a debilitating race against a virus poised to overwhelm and destroy them. Financial markets in free fall and the world’s economy crumbling.
 
Yes, there is an urgency to facing this onslaught, however let us not forget. Let us not forget why all this started. Wildlife markets, places where wild animals are slaughtered and sold for food. The one that started this was in Wuhan, China, but it isn’t the only one. Such wildlife markets are present in other countries in the Far East.
 
This is not the first time, the SARS virus, the avian flu also had such origins and the offending countries and cultures learned nothing from it. It is time that every human being in the world realizes how intricately we are all linked together. Artificial borders, imaginary lines on land inked on treaties are no barrier for a pandemic that has spread the world over in 90 days.
 
This is probably not the end. The world will go through this, but not before hundreds of thousands of people die, millions are put through the pain of losing family, friends and loved ones. Economic hardships that will destroy a generation.
 
The citizens of this planet must demand justice and restitution from China. They must demand that the sale and slaughter of wildlife be banned for food consumption. As we sit cooped up in our homes, helpless, wondering when this nightmare will end, let’s circulate and sign this petition, with the goal that everyone with access to internet, a smartphone, a computer, anyone old enough to understand this message needs to sign this and send a message to our governments that they need to hold China accountable and they need to hold the other countries, whether in the East or West accountable when they mess with wildlife.
