Why this petition matters

We throw out a staggering 57 million straws every day in Canada, sometimes without even using them. These straws end up accumulating in landfills, polluting our oceans and threatening marine life. We can do better than that!

Countries all around the world look up to Canada for leadership. Let us walk the walk and use our influence for positive change! On Thursday, April 19th 2018, the CBC announced that Britain plans to ban the sale of plastic straws and other single-use plastic products. The office of Britain's Prime Minister, Theresa May, is calling on us, allies to the Commonwealth, to take action to tackle marine waste. Let us rise to the occasion!

Our Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, was recently asked about banning single-use plastic straws. He is open to the idea and said his government is looking forward to discussing it further. Let us show our strong support for this initiative to rid the ocean of unnecessary, single-use, "convenience plastic."

We call on the Prime-Minister, Justin Trudeau, and elected officials, to support this common-sense initiative and ban single-use plastic straws and stir sticks in Canada. #byebyepailles

Please sign and share this petition to spread the word. Together we can make plastic history: #SoLongStraws!

Check out this other petition I started asking the city of Montreal to ban plastic straws (perhaps they can lead the way for Canada). #byebyepaillesmtl
