ALLOW INTERNATIONALLY TRAINED-PHARMACISTS TO PARTICIPATE IN COVID-19 SUPPORT

The Issue

As Covid-19 ravages through Canada, Our Frontline Healthcare workers will be needing more support in the coming days or weeks. This in addition to shortage of our healthcare system is already dealing with the needs of our aging population. This petition is to allow international trained foreign pharmacists to be given provisional licenses to practice in Canada, in health care workers capacity.Support Workers, Pharmacist’s Assistants, Home care workers, and to help in senior home with administration of medicines, medical awareness counsellors, medical emergency services workers, personal support workers, health care counsellors, International trainer pharmacists are experienced, trained and ready to help. They vary from newly graduated to having many years of experience in their home countries. Where are these people today? They are either in school or working menial jobs because Canada does not recognize their education and experience. It takes an international trained pharmacist an average of 2 years to go through the roller coaster of requirements in order to have an opportunity to become a Registered Pharmacist in Canada. A pharmacist with 15 or 20 years of experience is not even allowed Health care Assistant or personal support worker unless they take a certification program, which cost valuable time and a lot of money. Internationally trained pharmacists can help with the covid-19 crisis. Give them the opportunity to help Canada in time of need like this one we have at hand right now.
