JUSTICIA PARA LA GATITA FERAL MARTA: QUEREMOS SABER QUÉ LE PASÓ
El problema
Marta era mucho más que una gata. Era la gatita de muchos trabajadores sanitarios y no sanitarios, pacientes y familiares del Hospital Universitario de Guadalajara. Era el último miembro de una colonia felina gestionada por la Asociación La Camada de Guadalajara, que durante hace más de nueve años vivía en los terrenos donde posteriormente se construyó el aparcamiento subterráneo gestionado por una empresa privada. Su punto de alimentación se encontraba dentro del aparcamiento y era allí donde recibía comida, cuidados y la protección de las personas que se habían responsabilizado de su bienestar (voluntarios y algunos trabajadores del hospital).
Durante años, Marta formó parte de la vida cotidiana del hospital y de muchas personas de nuestra ciudad. En los duros años de la pandemia, cuando tantas personas vivieron momentos de angustia, miedo y agotamiento, Marta también estuvo allí. Para muchos trabajadores, encontrarse con ella durante esos breves momentos de descanso fue una pequeña fuente de compañía y consuelo en unos años extraordinariamente difíciles.
Marta era una gata cariñosa y muy vulnerable ya que confiaba en las personas y se acercaba a todo el mundo buscando caricias.
Pero a finales de mayo de 2026 algo cambió. Desde aproximadamente el 26 de mayo, sus cuidadoras empezaron a observar que Marta estaba muy asustada y huidiza. No se acercaba a ellas y le costaba entrar en el aparcamiento, un lugar que conocía desde hacía años.
El 29 de mayo se dió la orden de destruir su punto de alimentación y ese mismo día Marta desapareció.
Sus cuidadoras y la Asociación La Camada intentamos por todos los medios dialogar con aquellos que dieron la orden para encontrar una solución. Se les informó del contenido de la ley 7/2023, de Protección de los Derechos y el Bienestar de los Animales en relación con las colonias felinas y los gatos ferales, y de la necesidad de garantizar la protección de Marta. Pero se negaron a comunicarse con nosotros.
Ante la desaparición de Marta, difundimos su caso en redes sociales para intentar localizarla informando de cuál había sido la situación.
Cuarenta y ocho horas después, Marta apareció en el propio aparcamiento, en circunstancias que todavía deben ser esclarecidas y en un estado de extrema gravedad, por lo que La Asociación La Camada la trasladó inmediatamente a un Centro veterinario. El diagnóstico fue devastador: Marta sufría un traumatismo gravísimo, incompatible con la vida y con muchísimo sufrimiento de todos, no hubo otra opción que ayudarla a morir sin dolor.
Marta murió después de más de ocho años formando parte de la vida de muchas personas. Murió después de haber sido cuidada, alimentada y protegida por personas que la querían. Murió después de que se destruyera el lugar donde recibía alimento y cuidados. Murió tras desaparecer durante dos días y ser encontrada gravemente herida en el mismo aparcamiento.
No sabemos qué le ocurrió a Marta. Y precisamente por eso solicitamos una investigación exhaustiva, transparente, rigurosa y a fondo de las circunstancias que rodearon la desaparición, las lesiones y la muerte de Marta, así como las posibles responsabilidades que pudieran existir.
Cuando un animal vulnerable, conocido y querido por tantas personas muere en circunstancias que no han sido esclarecidas, no podemos mirar hacia otro lado.
Firmar esta petición no significa señalar a nadie sin pruebas. Significa pedir que se investigue. Significa pedir que se conozca la verdad.
Por Marta y por todas las personas que la cuidamos y la quisimos. Y por todos los animales vulnerables que dependen de que los seres humanos actuemos con responsabilidad.

JUSTICE FOR MARTA, THE FERAL CAT: WE WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO HER
The problem
Marta was much more than a cat. She was a beloved cat to many healthcare and non-healthcare workers, patients and relatives at Guadalajara University Hospital. She was the last remaining member of a feral cat colony managed by La Camada Association of Guadalajara, which had lived for more than nine years on the grounds where an underground car park, managed by a private company, was later built.
Her feeding station was located inside the car park. There, she received food, care and protection from the people who had taken responsibility for her wellbeing — volunteers and some hospital workers.
For years, Marta was part of the daily life of the hospital and of many people in our city. During the difficult years of the COVID-19 pandemic, when so many people experienced fear, anguish and exhaustion, Marta was there too. For many healthcare workers, seeing her during those brief moments of rest was a small source of companionship and comfort during extraordinarily difficult years.
Marta was a loving and trusting cat. She was also extremely vulnerable because she trusted people and approached everyone looking for affection and a gentle touch.
But at the end of May 2026, something changed. From around May 26, her caregivers began to notice that Marta was frightened and unusually wary. She no longer approached them and found it difficult to enter the car park, a place she had known for years.
On May 29, the order was given to destroy her feeding station. That same day, Marta disappeared.
Her caregivers and La Camada Association made every possible effort to speak with those who had given the order, hoping to find a solution. They were informed about the provisions of Spanish Law 7/2023 on the protection of animal rights and welfare concerning feral cat colonies and the need to ensure Marta's protection. However, they refused to communicate with us.
After Marta disappeared, we shared her case on social media in an attempt to locate her and to make people aware of what had happened.
Forty-eight hours later, Marta was found inside the very same car park, under circumstances that still need to be clarified. She was in an extremely serious condition. La Camada Association immediately took her to a veterinary centre.
The diagnosis was devastating: Marta had suffered extremely severe trauma, incompatible with life and causing immense suffering. There was no other option but to help her die peacefully and without pain.
Marta died after more than eight years of being part of the lives of so many people. She died after being cared for, fed and protected by people who loved her. She died after the place where she had received food and care was destroyed. She died after disappearing for two days and being found gravely injured in that same car park.
We do not know what happened to Marta.
And that is precisely why we are asking for a thorough, transparent and rigorous investigation into the circumstances surrounding Marta's disappearance, injuries and death, as well as into any possible responsibilities that may exist.
When a vulnerable animal, known and loved by so many people, dies in circumstances that have not been clarified, we cannot simply look the other way.
Signing this petition does not mean pointing the finger at anyone without evidence. It means asking for an investigation. It means asking for the truth to be known.
For Marta, and for all the people who cared for her and loved her.
And for all vulnerable animals who depend on human beings acting responsibly.
