The Issue
Trevor Seever was only 29 years old when he was brutally murdered by Modesto Police Officer Joseph Lamantia. Trevor asked his family to call 911 because he was having a mental crisis. Within 3 seconds of Lamantia arriving on the scene and spotting Trevor walking through the courtyard of Church of Brethren, Lamantia shouted, "get down!" As he simultaneously Shot at Trevor 4 times at 170 feet, hitting him in the back. The other 3 shots hitting the wall of a daycare. Trevor dropped to his knees and put his hands up. He shouted I can't breathe! As Lamantia ran out to an open field he yelled put your hands up he shot at Trevor 3 more times at 50 feet, once hitting his liver and the other shot hit Trevor in his heart. Trevors family called 911 for help, not to get their loved one murdered. Trevor was unarmed and did not resist arrest, he complied with all commands by the officer. This is the officer's 5th KILLING in his 12-year career as an officer. He shot another civilian less than 6 weeks before he shot and killed Trevor.
We are grateful that Joseph Lamantia was fired from Modesto Police Department and charged with manslaughter by the District Attorney's office on March 18, 2021. However, we are concerned that the Stanislaus District Attorney not convicting their friend and previous co-worker. He is free on bail and we have now been through 9 pre-trials. It seems not much is being done to convict Lamantia. We have witnessed the D.A. laughing and speaking with Lamantia after a hearing. We are concerned charging and convicting Lamantia will not happen. Lamantia's old partner is now a lead investigator in the D.A. office. The assistant D.A. on this case is married to a police officer. There is definitely a conflict of interest with the Stanislaus District Attorney's office trying this case.
Please help us by signing this petition for Attorney General Rob Bonta to take over this case and demand the manslaughter charge be changed to murder charges.
