Hello everyone!
Wow, we are close to reaching 500 signatures!! Our next goal is 1,000 signatures. I am truly grateful for your signing and supporting this petition. Thank you for showing Maize and I so much love!
Maize had her first follow-up vet visit since David Lunden Askew III (“Zake”) bludgeoned her with an axe. The drain tube was removed, and she may still lose her eyesight. Though I must still spoon feed Maize, I’m glad that she is trying to eat. Maize must still wear the Elizabethan collar, and many staples remain in her head. Please keep the prayers and warm wishes coming. My sweet girl is only 9 months-old, so this will be a very long road to recovery.
On this journey to justice, I’ve met so many amazing people around the country. You all are our village, and Maize and I are grateful to have you. Due to the long healing path for Maize and I, a dear family member is setting up a Facebook Page to help provide updates and answer any questions. We can also be reached at maizescare@yahoo.com.
Now comes the not so pleasant part of this update. As of February 29, 2024, Maize's attacker is still not in police custody, and we visited the Aliquippa Police station yesterday. We were told that Mr. Askew is still on the run though it was reported that he was later seen walking in the neighborhood. A call was placed to police to report his sighting, but we have no further updates. Our faith in justice remains strong, and we are trusting to soon meet with law enforcement leaders – Aliquippa Police Chief John Lane and Beaver County District Attorney Nathan Bible. Mr. Askew remains free though he faces multiple serious charges, including Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. We very much want to understand what’s going on and relay information to so many supporters around the country.
How do you bludgeon a puppy with an axe and remain free? This is not right.
While everyone has seen the photo of Maize after the attack, I am sharing her photo from those early puppy days. I considered Maize to be the most beautiful puppy ever!! And to me, Maize is still my beautiful puppy!!
It is my prayer that Maize and I can eventually and safely resume our walking routine and stop at our favorite location which happens to be a school bus stop. My sweet girl loved waiting for the school bus and greeting so many kids. That was her favorite thing to do! I’m sure my Maize misses the laughter of the children and their gentle, little pats on her head!
Once again, thank you all for supporting the petition. Please keep sharing Maize’s story with everyone you know and across all social media networks. Love and kindness will always win!!
