Irish Justice Dept - Make Image Based Sexual Abuse (Revenge Porn) a criminal offence

The Issue

Image based Sexual Abuse is currently not a crime in Ireland. Under Irish law it is entirely legal to share intimate photographs and videos through social media, through electronic communication, and through 'Revenge Porn' devoted websites.

A relatively new facet of this abuse is 'Cum Tributes', where an abuser prints the picture of the victim, ejaculates on it, takes a photo of it, and then posts the picture along with a caption.

On these websites the victim's name, address, email account Facebook account, workplace, colleagues email accounts, family members and their email accounts, and anything else the abuser knows about them, is posted. The original poster is usually known to the victim and has often been in a relationship with them. This is done to facilitate the other users sharing of these images and videos directly into the victim's life, with the aim of 'destroying' the victim's life.

Additionally the website users post what they would like to do to the victim, whom they call a collection of abusive names such as 'whore', 'fuckmeat', 'slut', and so on. These things include rape, kidnap, forced prostitution, physical violence, and so on.

Image Based Sexual Abuse is a massive violation of privacy and has devastating results including severe psychological trauma. People find that they get inexplicably fired or can't find new employment. Image Based Sexual Abuse can damage families. It can lead to suicidal thoughts and suicide.

Image Based Sexual Abuse is a way for abusers to exert  power and control and is a form of sexual violence.  Please sign this petition to signal to the Irish Department of Justice ministers that a law making this behaviour illegal must be instated.
