The Issue

I am writing to bring attention to a heart-wrenching case of corporate greed that hastened the tragic loss of an irreplaceable loved one. Keith Hargrave, a dedicated employee and loving family man, who dedicated 38 loyal years to Advance Auto Parts, most recently as the General Manager of the Kaplan, Louisiana store. In January 2025, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. In early February, he suffered a stroke and immediately began aggressive cancer treatment.

While still undergoing treatment, and out on approved medical leave, Advance Auto Parts terminated his employment causing him to lose his company health insurance. This forced him to pause life-saving cancer treatments until he was forced to reapply for his own position in order to regain coverage and finish treatment.

After completing treatment, he attempted to return to work, but his health continued to decline (multiple hospitalizations, kidney function dropping to 8%, and a second stroke). Despite having both short-term and long-term disability coverage, the company terminated him a second time while he was critically ill. This final termination also caused him to lose his company-provided life insurance policy. Keith passed away still heartbroken that after nearly four decades of service, he was never once recognized for his loyalty and dedication, and that the company showed no compassion during his fight for life.

To this day, no one from upper management or HR at Advanced Auto Parts  has reached out to offer condolences to his family. The District Manager has not returned multiple phone calls, and when his family spoke with a HR representative , they were met with indifference rather than empathy.

Advanced Auto parts, a renowned poor corporate citizen, who has faced EEOC lawsuits over hostile work environments for Black/Gay employees, a major data breach impacting millions of applicants/workers (leading to a $10M settlement), multiple investor lawsuits alleging accounting/pricing misrepresentations, and class actions lawsuits for unpaid wages and lactation accommodation issues,  and asbestos product liability has a reprehensible history of putting profits over doing the right thing.

We ask that you pledge to boycott Advanced Auto Parts until such time that they apologize to the family of Keith Hargrave, compensate them for the loss of his Life Insurance benefits, and take steps to insure fair and just treatment of their employees.

Let us come together to honor Keith Hargrave's memory and ensure no other family has to endure such a devastating loss.

Please sign this petition to demand justice for the family of Keith Hargrave and to promote safe and healthy work environments for all employees.
