Justice for Yash: Ban Deadly Chinese Manjha Before More Lives Are Lost
The Issue
On 27 June 2025, my family lost my brother (Yash Goswami) in one of the most horrifying and preventable ways imaginable.
He was only 22 years old.
That evening, he was riding his scooter near Delhi’s Rani Jhansi Flyover when a banned Chinese manjha — a razor-sharp synthetic kite string — suddenly wrapped around his neck and slit his throat within seconds. He died on the spot.
One ordinary ride home destroyed an entire family forever.
My brother was not involved in any crime, conflict, or reckless act. He became the victim of a dangerous product that is already banned, yet continues to be openly sold and used across India.
For the last 11 months, we have been fighting for justice and compensation through the legal system. We submitted every document asked of us. But in the end, our case was rejected because the person flying the kite could not be identified.
How can a family lose a loved one in such a brutal and preventable incident, and still be told there is nobody responsible?
The truth is this:
Chinese manjha continues to kill people every year despite repeated bans, warnings, and public outrage.
Children have died.
Bikers have died.
Pedestrians have suffered permanent injuries.
Birds are mutilated every festival season.
And yet every year, the same deadly cycle repeats.
This is not an “accident.”
It is a public safety failure.
Chinese manjha is made from synthetic nylon and coated with abrasive and metallic materials, making it dangerously sharp and nearly unbreakable. Even a brief contact at road speed can turn it into a weapon. Despite being banned in Delhi since 2017, it is still easily available in markets and online.
My brother was more than a headline.
He was a son.
A brother.
A person with dreams, responsibilities, and a future that was taken away in seconds.
No family should ever receive a phone call saying their loved one died because of a kite string.
Through this petition, I request:
• Strict nationwide enforcement against the manufacture, storage, sale, and use of Chinese manjha
• Regular police and market inspection drives before kite-flying festivals
• Strong criminal action against sellers and distributors of banned manjha
• Public awareness campaigns highlighting the deadly consequences of Chinese manjha
• A proper victim compensation framework for families affected by such incidents, even when the offender cannot be identified
• Accountability from authorities responsible for enforcing existing bans and safety regulations
I cannot bring my brother back.
But if his story can help prevent even one more death, then his voice deserves to be heard.
Please support this petition.
Help us ensure that no other family has to suffer this pain again.
