One Month Since We Lost Wang Wang July 28, 2026

Today marks one month since Wang Wang and her puppies were killed on June 28, 2026. I wanted to take a moment to thank each of you who signed, shared, and stayed with this story over the past month — and to update you on where things stand.
Thank You
Your signature mattered. Every share mattered. With your support, I will keep carrying this forward — not just as a memory of Wang Wang, but as a real push toward national animal cruelty legislation in China. That is the only ending to this story that would feel right.
The Censorship Hasn't Stopped Us
Most Chinese platforms continue to delete posts about Wang Wang. Content gets taken down, and yet people keep posting it again. That persistence — ordinary people refusing to let this disappear quietly — is, I think, the most powerful part of this whole movement right now.
I want to share something I posted earlier, because it still says exactly how I feel one month later:
"I'm glad that people are sharing Wang Wang's story. It's been disheartening to watch so many posts about her get taken down on Chinese platforms. It feels like the story is being erased before it's even had the chance to lead to anything. That's exactly why I think we need to keep sharing and talking about her. If her story disappears, so does the pressure that could actually change something. Wang Wang didn't get to choose the life she had — no home, no protection, nothing standing between her and the people who hurt her. The least we can do is make sure her death means something. I don't think this is about anger anymore. I think it's about hope — that enough people caring, enough people refusing to let this go quiet, could actually push toward real legislation to protect animals like her. That's the only ending to this story that would feel right to me. Please keep sharing, wherever you can. Not for outrage. For her."
What Change Can Look Like — And How Long It Can Take
I think often about the case of "Puppy Doe" in the United States — a dog named Kiya who was tortured so severely in 2013 that she had to be euthanized. Her abuser was not sentenced until 2018 — nearly five years later — when he finally received 8 to 10 years in prison. Massachusetts strengthened its animal cruelty laws in the years after her case became known.
Five years. That is how long it took for one dog's suffering to become real legal consequence and real legal change in a country with an existing legal framework for animal protection. China does not yet have that framework at all. This is exactly why the work in front of us matters, and why it may take patience as much as passion. Wang Wang deserves both from us.
We will never forget her.
Reaching Out, Together
Over the past weeks, I've reached out to animal welfare organizations to ask for their support and endorsement, including:
World Animal Protection
Humane World for Animals
Animals Asia
Lady Freethinker
FOUR PAWS
Some have responded, some have not yet, and I will keep following up and keep you updated as things develop. If you belong to, work with, or know people at animal welfare organizations — Chinese or international — please consider reaching out yourselves, or let me know so we can coordinate.
Please Keep Reading Her Story
Over the past month, I've rewritten the petition itself several times — from a short version, to a much longer one, and now to something in between. I did this because I want people to actually read about who Wang Wang was, not just sign and move on. She was not just a victim. She was, by every account from people who knew her, an extraordinary mother — one who returned again and again to a puppy she couldn't keep, who stayed with her newborns through unimaginable violence rather than save herself, who kept trying to reach and comfort her babies even after she could no longer see. Her love for her family, and even for the humans around her who showed her any kindness at all, is the heart of why this story has moved so many people. If you haven't yet, I hope you'll take a few minutes to read her story in the petition itself.
What You Can Do Right Now
Share the petition with your friends, family, and local community or advocacy groups — especially anyone outside the circles who have already seen it.
Keep reposting, even when things get taken down. Every repost matters more than it might feel like in the moment.
Follow for updates — I will continue to post as this develops, including any response from organizations and media.
Thank you for standing with Wang Wang. Her death should not be the end of her story. Let's make sure it isn't.
— With gratitude, and in memory of Wang Wang
(World Animal Protection)
Humane World for Animals
(Animals Asia)
Lady Freethinker
FOUR PAWS
